Keele Community First Responders
About Us

We are a group of volunteers, made up of students and members of the community, trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service to respond to 999 calls throughout the Keele University, Keele, Silverdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Madeley and surrounding areas.

How we help

"Since our formation in 2008 we have responded to over 5000 emergency 999 calls and have trained over 1000 members of the public in CPR."

Responding

Based in the community, we are often able to reach patients prior to the arrival of an ambulance, allowing treatment to commence as quickly as possible.

Typical emergencies attended by our responders:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Chest Pain
  • Strokes
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Traumatic emergencies
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Seizures

Basic Life Support

We deliver Basic Life Support awareness courses, with the aim of teaching simple and effective emergency first aid skills to members of the public in as little as 2 hours.

Topics covered:

  • Help the unconscious casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
